Daltrey-and-Townsend-in-TommyFrom Jacob L – Mr. Pop History – When did the rock band “The Who” last perform their “Tommy” rock opera on stage? Nobody seems to know.

Mr. Pop History – In the U.S. – It was Sunday, June 7, 1970. Where? At the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center, NY. Early? That’s because “Tommy” kept lingering and lingering. The movie was next.

“Jaws” by author Peter Benchley became big during the 1970’s….?

Blue-Hunter-White-Death-posterFrom Catherine B – Mr. Pop Culture – Hello. “Jaws” by author Peter Benchley became big during the 1970’s. IMDB says three “Jaws” movies were made during the 1970’s. Wasn’t Benchley impressed by yet, an early 1970’s movie on sharks? Thank you.

Mr. Pop History – Yes and it was called “Blue Water, White Death” – the hunt for the Great White Shark” which ran in movie theaters back in May of 1971.

Early-Melanie-GriffithFrom Joe P – Mr. Pop – Shock Jock Howard Stern was supposed to star in another movie – just before his “Private Parts” I believe. This was a mainstream-type movie with some well-known actress.

Mr. Pop History – Back in 1997. It was supposed to be something called “Jane” and Howard was to co-star with Melanie Griffith. It wasn’t meant to be, but Stern had to sue. The movie was never made and I don’t know if he got anything from it.

“Survivor” was the first of the successful run of Reality TV shows – is this true?

Regis-Philbin-Wants-To-Give-You-MoneyFrom Karen O – Mr. Pop – “Survivor” was the first of the successful run of Reality TV shows – is this true? In all the research I’ve seen – including Wiki – they say yes. Can you confirm this?

Mr. Pop History – Technically – no. “Survivor,” when first pitched to CBS, was pitched on the basis of the “suddenly” hot game show genre. That’s right – “Survivor” is a game show before it’s a reality show – and that’s what gets lost. All the others which followed? – They’re game shows in a reality setting.

You can thank “Who Wants To Me A Millionaire” because that trend won producers over. I don’t think it ever would have happened without Regis Philbin and crew!

Did all the members of the famed “Seinfeld” cast have good relationships?

Cast-of-SeinfeldFrom Carter S – Mr. Pop – Did all the members of the famed “Seinfeld” cast have good relationships?

Mr. Pop History – Maybe not as well as your lead to believe. Back in May of 1994 – I thought this was interesting: Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander passed on his co-star – Julia Louis-Dreyfus when picking the cast for his film-directing debut. Although she auditioned, Ms. Dreyfus turned-down cold for the comedy “Stranger Things.” Instead, he chose Lolita Davidovich. I gotta believe that bothered Dreyfus.
