From Garry A – Mr. Pop – When those little DVD discs came out, what did DVD stand for? I have a bet with my sister’s boyfriend.
Mr. Pop History – It originally meant “Digital Versatile Disc” but it seems everyone now believes it means “Digital Video Disc.”
From Jimmy W – When did a TV network first air original programming over the Internet?
From Jimmy W – When did a TV network first air original programming over the Internet?
Mr. Pop History – I’m going to take a guess here and say – the year was 1997 when NBC debuted “Homicide: the Second Shift,” a spin-off of its “Homicide: Life on the Street.” The spin-off ran only on the Internet at NBC.com.
From Patti J – Mr. Pop C – I always wondered when my favorite place in Las Vegas – The Hard Rock Café opened.
Mr. Pop History – It was March 10, 1995 and you guessedt special from the hotel. it – it opened with a lot of press. MTV did a concert.
From Carl N – Michael Jackson teamed with a well-known rapper on one song. What was it?
Mr. Pop History – He teamed with Tupac Shakur on “Never Had a Friend Like Me” from GRIDLOCKED’d. Jackson said he was never paid by Death Row records.
From Joe P – Mr. Pop – Shock Jock Howard Stern was supposed to star in another movie – just before his “Private Parts” I believe. This was a mainstream-type movie with some well-known actress.
Mr. Pop History – Back in 1997. It was supposed to be something called “Jane” and Howard was to co-star with Melanie Griffith. It wasn’t meant to be, but Stern had to sue. The movie was never made and I don’t know if he got anything from it.
From Carl A – Bob Dylan appeared on a TV sitcom? When and where? Thank you.
Mr. Pop History – Bob Dylan appeared in a 1999 episode of “Dharma & Greg.” In the episode, Dharma tries out as a drummer for his band. It was an unbilled cameo. Dylan wanted no advanced publicity.
From Carter S – Mr. Pop – Did all the members of the famed “Seinfeld” cast have good relationships?
Mr. Pop History – Maybe not as well as your lead to believe. Back in May of 1994 – I thought this was interesting: Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander passed on his co-star – Julia Louis-Dreyfus when picking the cast for his film-directing debut. Although she auditioned, Ms. Dreyfus turned-down cold for the comedy “Stranger Things.” Instead, he chose Lolita Davidovich. I gotta believe that bothered Dreyfus.
