Mr. Pop History – hmmm – you’re reading this blog aren’t you? Not long ago, I answered a question about “The Twist” by Chubby Checker. Well, that too is your answer! The song was written by the late Hank Ballard who also choreographed the dance.
Also, according to some – “The Twist” was the first rock record embraced by adults (Dick Clark).
Mr. Pop History – Those of us around remember “The Twist” by Chubby Checker. A #1 record twice – within 16 months! First in September of 1960 and then in January of 1962. That’s amazing. Here’s an ad – the first time around for Chubby Checker’s “The Twist” when it was climbing the charts back in July of 1960.
When you think about this record’s total chart longevity during the years 1960, 1961 and 1962 it’s simply astounding and my guess is – it breaks another record for most weeks heard on the radio – relative to current hits. A good guess – for both rides is 6 months
