Question About Top Touring Musical Acts – From 1990… Pop. Culture. History

From Ellen T – Mr. Pop… My class is throwing a 20th reunion and in my research was – wondering – what were the top touring acts for 1990?

Mr. Pop History – In order:
New Kids on the Block, Billy Joel, Paul McCartney, Grateful Dead, Janet Jackson, Aerosmith, Hammer (as in M.C.), Motley Crue, Phil Collins and Eric Clapton.

New Kids on the Block did $74.1 million in concert business that year.

This was way before Hip-Hop and Rap were any major money players. Boy – has the world changed since 1990.

A 1980s/1970s Pop Music Question… Your Pop Culture History Is Here!

From Rae S – What albums by pop artists took the longest to reach #1?

Mr. Pop History – The New Kids album “Hangin’ Tough” took 55 weeks to reach the national #1 album charts back in 1989. But I’d say the longest was Fleetwood Mac’s self-titled album. It took 58 weeks and hit #1 in September of 1976.

Other long runs to #1 included “Whitney Houston,” and “Appetite” from Guns ‘N Roses, as both took 50 weeks to hit the top spot.
