From Nina O – Hello Mr. Pop History. I’m sort of puzzled and hope you can help. I remember a website called pets.com that used a sort of sock puppet – a dog and after they folded – I saw the same sock puppet being used on another commercial? Thank you.

Mr. Pop History – That is correct. The famed pets.com sock puppet went away when that website shut down in November of 2000. But did it? No. A few years later, it became the mascot for those 1-800-Bar None commercials. It’s highly unusual that the same icon was used for two separate companies/products. In fact, it may be the only time in pop history that it happened. Good question! sock puppet
