Mr. Pop Culture Report – April 29…

Lady Gaga makes the Time top 100 most influential people (past year) – a list that just came out.  Besides Gaga, a number of musicians made the list, including Taylor Swift, Prince and Elton John.

And…

Lady Gaga’s former boyfriend, producer and business partner, is suing the pop star for $30.5 million, claiming he was pushed away after their failed romance. Songwriter-producer Rob Fusari’s lawsuit contends he transformed Stefani Germanotta into “Lady Gaga” and switched her rock riffs with dance beats to make her songs commercial hits. ” Lady Gaga, one of the world’s hottest recording acts, won two Grammys this year for her debut album.

Renewing one’s wedding vows is typically a once-in-a-lifetime experience. But Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey prefer to do it a little more frequently than that — like every year! “I encourage everybody to do it. If you are happy and in love, celebrate it!” Cannon, 29, said Friday on his New York radio show, confirming that he and his pop-star wife, 40, will renew their vows — for a second time — to celebrate their second wedding anniversary.

Blasts Leno – In his first interview since quitting NBC in January, Conan O’Brien says that if the situation had been reversed, he would have gone “someplace else” rather than do what Leno had done. “He (Leno) went and took that show back and I think in a similar situation, if roles had been reversed, I know — I know me, I wouldn’t have done that,” O’Brien told “60 Minutes” in an interview to be broadcast on CBS on Sunday.

And – last year at this time – Can you believe It?…

Hugh Jackmanhas left his mark in Hollywood. The Australian actor had his hand and footprints cast in cement on Tuesday, in front of Hollywood’s historic Grauman’s Chinese Theater.

Elton John bids farewell to the Las Vegas Strip after five years and 241 shows at Caesars Palace — but said it won’t necessarily be a long, long time before he returns.

Top Pop Culture – Today – March 2… Mr. Pop Culture Report

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010 | Uncategorized | No Comments

They Call The Wind Mariah – Mariah Carey left fans waiting for two hours at a Las Vegas concert after demanding a doctor examine her throat before she went on stage, according to U.S. reports. Revelers had turned out to see the “Hero” hitmaker on the final date of her Angels Advocate tour at The Colosseum on Saturday night. But they became restless when Carey delayed her stage appearance until she received the all-clear from a physician after suffering problems with her vocal chords. The star turned up two hours later, and waited in her car until Ciara, who was also performing at the venue, had finished her show – so as not to upstage the R&B star.

Tonight” Reverts Back To Jay Leno - He returned Monday night with renewed purpose. “It’s good to be home,” he told his NBC “Tonight Show” audience. Leno is reclaiming his old job  just nine months after giving it up to Conan O’Brien, and only 19 days after NBC pulled the plug on Leno’s own prime-time misadventure.

Like the pair of jeans it depicts, a billboard poster in downtown Newark (NJ) is coming down. The ad for Akoo jeans shows a woman kneeling in front of a man and facing the camera. The man’s jeans are unbuckled, and the woman appears to be pulling them off. The billboard, which hovers over a busy intersection, sparked criticism after a local columnist questioned its taste.

General Motors Co is recalling 1.3 million compact cars in North America to address a power steering problem that has been linked to 14 crashes and one injury, the company said on Tuesday.  U.S. safety regulators opened an investigation on Jan. 27 into approximately 905,000 Cobalt models in the United States after receiving more than 1,100 complaints of power steering failures.

Music passing – Tom “T-Bone” Wolk, who played bass for nearly 30 years with Daryl Hall and John Oates and also recorded with Elvis Costello and Billy Joel, died of an apparent heart attack. Wolk was to have performed with Hall and Oates yesterday as part of the one-year anniversary show for NBC’s “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.” The musician played bass on Kurtis Blow’s early rap classic “These Are the Breaks” and between 1986 and 1992, served as the bassist for the “Saturday Night Live” house band, where he became familiar for his omnipresent black top hat. Wolk also collaborated and recorded with Carly Simon, Rosanne Cash, Bette Midler, Cyndi Lauper, Jewel and Shawn Colvin throughout his career.

Not Surprising – Ford Beats Rival GM – Ford had a good month in February, with sales rising 43.1% to 142,285 last month, higher than expectations of a 30.1% gain. It was the first time since 1998 that Ford’s sales topped rival General Motors’ sales.

Obama Ball To Be The Hot Pop Spot Next Week

Friday, January 16th, 2009 | Hot Pop Culture, Media | No Comments

Obama Ball The Pop Hot Spot as Beyonce will provide the vocal styling for Barack and Michelle Obama’s first dance on inauguration night, but will she perform one of her chart topping hits? Our guess is that Beyonce will perform a new or a variation of one of her songs to fit the occasion.

Beyonce has expressed her desire to be a part of the inauguration since Obama was elected and she told a reporter in November: “Whatever they want — if they need me to volunteer, they need me to sing, I’m there, and I’m ready.” The singer and actress will also perform at the Neighborhood Ball on ABC along with Jay-Z, Will.i.am, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Shakira, Sting, Faith Hill, Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder and Maroon 5. Jessica Alba, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Kate Walsh will be presenters at the ball.

Britney On Top Of Pop

Thursday, October 16th, 2008 | Celebrity News, Hot Pop Culture, music news | No Comments

Singer Britney Spears has returned to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time since her debut single Baby One More Time, in 1999.

“Womanizer,” the first track off her new album Circus, was boosted by first-week download sales of 286,000.

Spears has scored the biggest opening-week tally by a female artist, beating Mariah Carey with Touch My Body.

Last October, top 10 single Gimme More jumped from 68 to number three, with first-week download sales of 179,000.

Successful comeback

Despite a gap of almost 10 years between number one hits, the star has only had three other tracks in the US top 10.

Those records included Toxic, Oops!…I Did it Again and You Drive Me Crazy.

Her last album Blackout went to number two in 2007.

Circus is set to be released on 2 December, which also coincides with the star’s 27th birthday.

After suffering a very public breakdown last year, which saw her lose custody of her children, Spears recently won three prizes at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Fans are hoping the new album is the start of a successful comeback.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday jury selection for the singer’s court trial, for driving without a valid California license, began.

However the singer exercised her right to stay away from court. Selection will continue on Thursday.
