WTBS "Sanford and Son" Ad

From Sabrina F – Mr. Pop – What was Tuner’s superstaton called before it was TBS? Did they ever use a slogan?

Mr. Pop History – The original station was WTCG-TV (channel 17) – an Atlanta UHF independent station. Owner Ted Turner got the idea to put it on satellite and make it available to the fledgling cable industry. It was a typical indy station – full of cartoons, reruns, movies and yes, Ted Turner’s sports teams. Cable companies loved this station because its programming was not duplicated. It was a terrific service in areas where there were no independent channels. WTCG filled the bill.

Slogans? Here’s one from 1986: Superstation WTBS. Great American Television.

Check out this ad. Remember when WTBS began it’s programming at 5 minutes past the hour and half-hour? Wow!

Come back soon, as I answer, to the best of my knowledge, another one of your pop history/culture questions.
