From August 1984 - President Reagan, joking in testing a microphone before  taping a radio address says – “My fellow Americans, I’m pleased to tell you today that I’ve signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes.”

April 1984 – David Lee Roth on why he loves show business: “Promoting, hustling, hyping – I like that whole kind of vaudeville, snake oil, extravaganza kind of experience. Not only selling things to people, but convincing them that they need it. And then, once you’ve convinced them that they need it, they’re amazed that they lived this long without it.”

July 1984 – Recording artist Thomas Dolby on music videos – “Video deprives people of the right to imagine their own images. When you listen to, say, ‘uptown girl’ on the radio, perhaps your picture is the girl you fancy I the shopping mall or the office or the factory or whatever. In the video, you see this luscious Manhattan model strutting around. You’ll never be able to listen to that song again, without seeing Billy Joel’s ‘uptown girl.’ She’s not yours anymore. That right is taken away from you. At the moment, records are just cheapened by videos…”

November 1984 – “If there were 10 rungs on a ladder, I’d say I was on the third rung now. I think I’ll always have goals. I can’t imagine ever reaching the end of saying, ‘That’s all I want to do.’” Quote from new pop singer Madonna.

Come back soon, as I answer, to the best of my knowledge, another one of your pop history/culture questions.
