Can't Buy Me Love 1964 (large)

From Myron I – You say the Beatles “I Want To Hold Your Hand” was officially released on December 26, 1963. With all the other labels getting into the act with re-releases, when exactly did Capitol release their second Beatles single? Thank you.

Mr. Pop History – After “Hand” was released, Vee-Jay, Swan, MGM and Atco, together – flooded the market with Beatle re-issues. Of course, they were “new” to American audiences with songs such as “Please Please Me,” “Do You Want To Know A Secret” and “She Loves You.” This was a concern for Capitol and you can see that concern veiled here, in this ad from March 1964. To answer your question, Capitol released, “Can’t Buy Me Love/You Can’t Do That” on March 16, 1964.

Come back soon, as I answer, to the best of my knowledge, another one of your pop history/culture questions.
