The Real Charlie Brown

From Geoff T – Greetings from Montreal! Can you confirm that “Peanuts” character of Charlie Brown was inspired or modeled after a real person – with the same name? Thank you.

Mr. Pop History – This one is unusual. Usually the name is changed, but not in this case. Peanuts creator Charles Schultz did indeed, create “Charlie Brown” after a namesake. (The real) Charlie Brown and Charles attended art class together and became friends. Then, Schulz had an idea he called “Good Old Charlie Brown” about a character that struggled and tried to do well, sort of like his friend.

Come back soon, as I answer, to the best of my knowledge, another one of your pop history/culture questions.
