| Pirate Radio Update From the Summer of 1966 |
From Tony T – Dear Mr. Pop History. Can you tell me which England ship/pirate pop radio stations had the best or biggest ratings? Is there such information? I love your site. I was astounded that Radio Luxembourg was the biggest pop music station of all time. Thank you for a marvelous web page.
Mr. Pop History – Thanks Tony. I do have some information. The British pop pirates peeked around 1966, so here’s something from the summer of 1966. From what this says – Radio Caroline (at 199 meters) had an audience of 8.8 million, followed Radio London at 8.1 million, Radio 390 at 2.6 million and Radio England at 2.2 million. To boot, Radio Scotland comes in at 2.2 million and Britain Radio at 718,000.
