From Zoey C – Mr. Pop – Comedian Steve Martin got his start as a writer. How? That’s the hardest thing to do.

Mr. Pop – Yes – with a lot of luck. His turning point (just out of college) came as a writer for the Smothers Brothers CBS-TV show in 1968. “I got the job almost by accident. I knew a girl who knew Mason Williams, who was one of the show’s writers, she said they were looking for people, so I submitted my little stack of poems and they hired me. They wanted young people in 1968. More than anything else, I guess, I was the right age,” said Martin.
