“The Partridge Family”

From Charlie W – Mr. Pop – Is it true that the creators of “The Monkees” also created the Partridge Family?

Mr. Pop History – No. “The Partridge Family” began on paper as “Family Business” by Bernie Slade – who had created TV shows such as “The Flying Nun,” “Love On A Rooftop” and one other. He had a contract with Screen Gems to create three pilots a year. He interviewed 850 children before deciding to test 10 – two for each role. Interestingly – Shirley Jones got an early script and was the first cast member on the show, but she seemed to be the only one who knew her stepson – David, was being considered as one of the kids. No one else knew the connection. The other guy being considered for the role of Keith Partridge was someone by the name of John David Carson.
