Steve Grossman - “Caravan Tonight”

From Carol L – Mr. Pop History – In the history of gays in entertainment – can you tell me, as far as – I guess, modern music – who was the first singer to openly convey he or she was gay?

Mr. Pop History – Let’s go back to the glitter movement of around 1973. It was somebody by the name Steve Grossman – the first openly gay singer-songwriter to sign with a major label. His album – on Mercury at that time – was called “Caravan Tonight.” His work was rooted in the common-place realities that faced a young gay man living in the city.
