Mandrill

From Melissa S – Mr. Pop – Quad or 4-channel FM broadcasting was a very interesting period in pop culture. FM stations sometimes broadcast concerts in quad – but do you know when this began?

Mr. Pop Culture – It was WCBS-FM in New York – just before they went sold-gold/oldies. CBS-FM played a lot of album rock and back on June 12, 1972, broadcast a 90-minute 4-channel quad concert from the Village Gate in Greenwich Village, featuring the band Mandrill. The music was picked up by 21 microphones and fed into an encoder that some how – mixed it up and the output was sent into for channels.
