Debbie Drake

From Patty H - Mr. Pop, I teach aerobics here in California. Where there any early exercise/gym influences other than Jack LaLanne?

Mr. Pop History - Well for gyms it was Vic Tanny. He was the one who moved them out of the alleys/backstreets into clean, stand-alone facilities. With his first gym back in 1956, Vic Tanny Centers quickly expanded to other areas. Next time you go to your local workout place, remember - Vic Tanny started it all. Jack LaLanne liked the idea so much, he began his own fitness centers in the 1970's.

The other early exercise "guru" was Jack's female TV counterpart/competition Debbie Drake, who could be seen on her own workout show during the early-mid 1960's. I believe Debbie Drake's show was only 15 minutes, but it was seen daily.
