From Manny L. - Hey Mr. Pop, Inger Stevens the
actress was one of my favorites. I know she committed suicide and
a few months later, a story came out that shocked Hollywood and
could have lead to her death. Do you know what the story was?
Mr. Pop History - Here is that story from
around August 5, 1970:
"A judge in California rules that Isaac
Jones, former UCLA star, is indeed the surviving husband of actress
Inger Stevens and heir to her $171 thousand estate. Jones, a Negro,
testified that he and Stevens agreed to keep the marriage a secret
because she feared that the racial difference would jeopardize her
career. Miss Stevens was a regular on television in the late 50's
through the 60's, including a starring role in "The Farmer's
Daughter" with William Windom. Inger Stevens (35) died on April
30 from an overdose of barbiturates."
